Happy Birthday, Ellen!

Another birthday post: this time for my lovely wife who hits a milestone birthday this year. I can't tell you which one, because I forget when she started counting backward.

Anyway, if any of her kids (or "kids") wanted to call her today, she tells me to remind them that she has to work tonight, so it'll be hard to reach her. You could leave her a birthday message on her blog though.

Me, I'm stuck in St. Louis. I should only be here another day though, driving back to Aurora tomorrow. I just don't know what time I'll be leaving, yet.

I've been here for two weeks, and it's been busy and hectic. A lot of that busy-ness hasn't necessarily been with St.Louis stuff though. I'm mainly here as a handy reference in case the folks here need something. Their stuff ends tomorrow, though, and thus so does my need to be here.

Anyway, that's why I haven't had blogging time recently. I'll try to catch up again now that the travel is almost done.

Happy Birthday, Kalen!

Kalen is 25! She has passed a milestone - she can rent a car!

Wish her happy birthday on her blog. She actually updated today.

That's it. My bitching will return later. It was a long day yesterday, and will be a long night tonight.

Don't Everyone Volunteer at Once

Hmm, I wonder if anyone from work ever looks here. Probably not.

Of course if they did, they could see me bitch now.

There was a backlog of problem reports to investigate today, so my boss sent out an e-mail to our team (and also the UK part of the team) that asked if everyone would take assignment of one of the reports (via a web site). There were eight outstanding, unassigned issues at that time.

I'd picked up one of these assignments yesterday, seeing the backlog at that point and having pretty much cleared the ones I'd previously taken assignment of. So, today I looked at the list again and picked up a couple more that I thought I could deal with easily. Then my boss e-mailed me and asked if I could look at another one because it needed some attention (I doubt she knew I'd already taken assignment of two issues).

So, at the beginning of the day there were eight unassigned reports. I was assigned three of them. So here's the math problem: how many were still unassigned at the end of the day when I last checked.

Yes, that's right, five.

So, no one else had taken assignment of any one of the issues, five or six hours (at least) after the request went out.

Some of the people on the team have good excuses. Some of them.

Anyway, enough bitching for now. Tomorrow I'll tell about our team meeting this week. I was a troublemaker. :-)

And if there is someone who is reading this from work -- I don't care. Enjoy. You know what I think. I don't feel the need for anonymity, but I'm not blasting other people's names either.

And I Am Outta Here!

Well, I'm not quite out of here (meaning Baltimore) yet, but I will be tonight. Better news, I don't have to return next week. We managed to keep things stable all week, and now the upgrades are scheduled for tonight and early next week, so all should be well.

I don't have a real part in the upgrades, but I'll be online from home next week to make sure all goes well with them, probably spending at least a couple late nights. But I'll be home.

And no one will be looking for any work from me all weekend, so I can just stay away from this laptop.

Yay.

More later, probably tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Ryan!

It's another late night for me, but I have to get on to blog so that I can wish Ryan a happy 20th birthday!

I no longer have teen-aged kids!

I'd point you to Ryan's blog to wish him Happy Birthday, but he's about two months late for his four-month update.

Other than that, I'm up late tonight doing monitoring duty. There were a couple difficult glitches that happened on this shift, but they're dealt with now. And, I didn't have to do any of the big resets tonight.

Which is good, because the ones the other night did not go well, and I was up that night until 4:30 am. Bleh!

Of course, it's 2:45am now, so not all that much better, but the monitoring shift goes to 2:00am anyway.

I'll be heading home on Friday night -- Matt's apparently going to pick me up from the airport. Tomorrow I should know whether I need to come back to Baltimore on Monday, but there's a good chance I won't have to, or if I do it will be a short trip, maybe only a couple of days.
